Carly Rae Jepsen (Mission, British Columbia, Canada, November 21, 1985) is a Canadian singer-songwriter. In 2007, won third place in the fifth season of Canadian Idol, and was a part of the concert tour Canadian Idol Top 3.2
Shortly after competing on Idol, he signed a recording contract with Fontana and MapleMusic, and released their debut album, Tug of War, on September 30, 2008. Three years later, he released a new single, titled "Call Me Maybe", which was released by 604 Records, and followed by the release of his first extended play, Curiosity, on February 14, 2012. "Call Me Maybe" received a good commercial reception, reaching # 1 on both the Billboard and Canadian Hot 100. The single also reached number one in Australia, Ireland and the UK. Jepsen signed with Interscope Records in 2012.
Jepsen cites a mixture of classic rock and alternative bands and musical influence, such as James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, Van Halen, Kimbra, La Roux, and Robyn.3
Jepsen attended Heritage Park Secondary School in Mission, British Columbia and has since sung there after graduation. He later attended Canadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria, BC before auditioning for Canadian Idol. After completing the tour of Canadian Idol, Jepsen retreated to BC to focus on composing, recording and completing his band. Her demos attracted the attention and eventually signed a contract with Simkin Artist Management and Dexter Entertainment. A contract with Fontana / Maple Music quickly followed, leading to the study Jepsen producer / writer Ryan Stewart.4
